"When creativity and opportunity meet on the beaten path of hard work
and a willingness to run uphill; anything is possible."

ATD NE Regional Conference 2023
Omaha, NE
The ATD NE Conference of 2023 was a pleasure to attend. I focused on workshops that focused on Data collection and communication. Perhaps the most impactful workshop at the conference was about the power of "Yes, and..." Rather than shutting down the ideas of others with the word "but" using the word can keep the conversation flowing with ideas and increase a willingness to collaborate.
ALC Conference May 2023
San Diego, California
The Chapter Leader's Meeting in San Diego was the highlight of my year. After the president of a
ATD Amber Watts encouraged me to write a proposal to present for the second year in a row, and I agreed. When I was selected to present, I was excited to develop my facilitation design and strategies into a workshop that might be helpful to others. With Stephanie Blakemore as a sounding board and co-presenter, we developed this workshop with my ideas. Through quality communication and teamwork, I developed an engaging and practical workshop that received positive feedback from participants and conference leadership.
ATD ICE Conference May 2022
Orlando, Florida
The ATD International Conference of 2022 was a four-day experience filled with learning opportunities and networking experiences. I attended workshops encompassing ROI and neuroscientific principles applicable to learning design. The highlight of this conference was the one-on-one conference with Crystal Kadakia, co-creator of the Learning Design Cluster model. We discussed how the Learning Cluster Design model is built upon the shoulders of older project management processes such as ADDIE but pushes further to meet the requirements specific to learning design. This learner-centric model seeks to meet the learner at the point of need. As such, it is unique because several learning experiences cater to different personality profiles surrounding the learner. The learner can access these learning experiences when they need the information. Success is measured not by course completion of anyone learning object. Instead, success is measured by the actual outcome of business and learning objectives. This comprehensive model incorporates familiar concepts, such as aligning strategic performing objectives (SPO) with learning and evaluative measures. And, of course, it introduces new concepts, such as surrounding the learning with multiple persona-focused resources instead of one learning object.
WHAT’S YOUR LEARNING DESIGN FORMULA?
- Brian Washburn- July 09, 2021
Brian Washburn has developed a taxonomy of sorts that classifies learning design elements. He has patterned his taxonomy after the periodic table. Thinking about the design elements this way provided flexibility that isn't always allowed with other models. Interestingly, quite a few apps have been incorporated into the periodic table so that technological tools can be associated with these elements. This idea has allowed me to think about the elements of a design differently and provided insight into overcoming the tendency to make a routine out of a few tools rather than judiciously choosing the tools that best fit the need.
